Since 1979, I have been designing and building large, open clockwork sculptures out of wood. Pendulums swing and wheels turn as time is kept, and all the action is dramatically open to view.

This is my latest design, 30″ high. It has a torsional pendulum a foot in diameter that rotates majestically back and forth very slowly. It is made of copper, brass, and lead. The dial is fused iridescent glass – glass that has been put in a kiln and heated until all sixteen individual pieces of glass melt into one. The hands are bubinga and the frame is black walnut. The mechanism has several new features of my own invention.
